Education, Advocacy, Preservation

The Tanana-Yukon Historical Society has helped celebrate and preserve the history of Fairbanks and Interior Alaska since the 1960s. Join us and help keep this history alive for future generations! 

What We Do

The Tanana Yukon Historical Society’s mission is to collect and share State and local historical knowledge through public lectures and events; historical preservation and cultural resource management projects; historical grant writing and administration; and operation of the Wickersham House Museum, Pioneer Park, Fairbanks, Alaska.

The Tanana-Yukon Historical Society keeps Interior Alaska history alive with programs that involve Alaska Natives, visitors, students, the local community, and the U.S. military. See the latest news and events.

Publications

We reproduce historical classics and also research newer histories such as Cold Missions: the US Army Air Forces and Ladd Field in WWII and A History of Creamer’s Dairy, Fairbanks, Alaska. See more books.

Collaborations

We work with the US Army to discover and maintain Alaska history on military lands, and assist the Army in its government-to-government process with Alaska Native groups. We also help support students who participate annually in National History Day. This academic enrichment program helps students discover historical issues, ideas, people, and events. Annual Lecture Series

Over the year, our monthly lecture series features presentations about local and state historical topics. Lectures are generally held on the third Wednesday of each month.  Our lecture series is currently suspended until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more.

James Wickersham House

The oldest home in Fairbanks, Wickersham House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is located at Pioneer Park. It serves as a museum devoted to the life and times of Judge Wickersham and the authentic recreation of early days in Fairbanks.  Wickersham House is currently closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
